Doom Resurrection arrives on the iPhone
A killer title to redefine mobile gaming? Probably not, but this is a serious waste of time for owners of Apple’s hot selling handheld computers.
As predicted, the folks at id Software has announced the release of Doom Resurrection ($9.99, iTunes) for the iPhone and iPod touch. Although the game play and characters—you and hell’s spawn—are going to be immediately and intimating familiar to anyone not living under a rock for the last decade.
“The iPhone should be better in performance than the Nintendo DS and the PSP,” said id founder John Carmack, recently at the E3 gaming conference. He added that the iPhone is “a real game platform, not a tiny little toy.”
For anyone not familiar with the back, in this first person shooter, you are the last living member of your Marine unit sent to Mars to clean up a science experiment gone wrong. The part of this epic that matters is that you get to kill a seemingly endless stream of monsters of every shape and variety (if you’re into that sort of thing).
Thereupon, now that both Doom and Wolfenstein have gone mobile, I would love to see the perhaps the all-time best Mac first person shooters brought to the small screen, Marathon.
What’s your take?
